To review my general position, there are relatively few foundation stones that keep any country viable, unified, and strong. History teaches that, when those stones are weakened, the country is soon lost. America is now facing that situation.

As I see them, the foundations of critical importance are the ability to secure our borders, control immigration, and maintain a common culture and a common language.

Illegal immigration is an invasion of America by a non-military force that is now estimated to be 11-13 million strong. These people, by the thousands, invade the United States on a daily basis, damaging public and private property, particularly along our southern border, and threatening the lives and welfare of the good Americans who live there. The illegal aliens then place a significant burden on our infrastructure, as they become the recipients of America's bounty in competition with our own citizens, while we are told America must be compassionate to such down trodden folks. As their numbers grow, the pleas for compassion turn into demands, and our politicians invariably give in to the demands.

Regardless of what you hear on the Leftwing news networks about illegal immigrants paying taxes and contributing to America's prosperity, illegals obviously don't pay the same as legitimate Americans. Tell me how they pay their fair share in the form of income taxes when they do not have social security numbers, don't pay property taxes because they own nothing, and any sales tax they might pay is minimal, based on the money they have to spend. Does that sound like they are paying their way, relative to lawful Americans?

Yet many times they are provided benefits like schooling, medical care and welfare, all paid for by those Americans like you who do pay numerous taxes. In short, illegal aliens enjoy the fruits of the American life style at the expense of those paying the bills. This must stop!

While illegal immigration must be stopped in its tracks, legal immigration must be either strictly controlled and reduced to a very small trickle or stopped altogether for a perion of time. Whereas most immigrants from previous generations came to America in search of an opportunity to become Americans, many today come in search of money and entitlements, while remaining culturally loyal to their homelands.

Any country, regardless of how robust and prosperous, cannot sustain infinite numbers of immigrants. There are from five to six billion people in the world. If we were to buy into the arguments of some that our borders should be open without restriction and that we should welcome all comers, regardless of status or numbers, the world would be at our door step demanding a piece of the American dream--a dream that would soon turn into a nightmare.

No matter the ills of present-day America, we remain the richest nation on earth and enjoy a high standard of living. It is to America that most people of all nations want to come, if they choose to leave their homeland. What other country in the world have people been waiting to come to in the numbers seeking to migrate to the U.S.A.? And to what other country are large numbers of people coming in the middle of the night illegally? They certainlly aren't lining up to get into Africa, China, India, Afghanistan, or Central and South America!

In terms of our culture, America's motto E Pluribus Unum means, "Out of Many, One." You'll note that it is not E Pluribus, Pluribus ("Out of Many, Many"). To me, America's motto is clear. The many cultures that are brought here are to merge into one common American culture--that melting pot we've heard so much about.

A nation's culture is the unifying glue that holds a people together and gives them a common sense of national identity and unity--a way of life they believe in, a common set of national traditions and customs that define the country and its people. In the U.S.A., immigrants have the opportunity to share the traditions and customs of their new homeland and proudly pass them on to their children. Previous generations of immigrants, for the most part, availed themselves of this opportunity to become loyal and proud Americans.

Sadly, what we are now seeing is not that melting pot, but instead a mosaic of distinct and separate subcultures. For example, how many foreign flags do you see flying from people's houses and cars and displayed on clothing? How many persons are self-described as some flavor of hyphenated Americans?

All this is a not so subtle message that these people still relate more to a foreign culture than to the American culture. After awhile, this mindset becomes engrained and they think of themselves, and teach their children to think of themselves, not as Americans, but as something else. This is a danger signal for the continued viability of our culture. And in our new found desire to be more accepting of just about everything these days, we not only let it go, we also strongly encourage it in our schools, where future generations are being indoctrinated and diversity of culture is celebrated, at the exclusion and serious diluting of the American culture.

Lastly, although the ability to speak multiple languages is a gift, a law officially recognizing multiple languages within one country is a curse,

Language is another critical element of that unifying glue which holds a nation together. Official acceptance of multiple languages does nothing but further ethnic minorities' disassociation with America. We divide ourselves into multiple camps and create untold and unnecessary problems for all. The California public schools tried multiple-language curricula, but had numerous and complex problems, while students were failing to learn English. Once bilingual education was rejected in favor of English immersion, thr children prospered and their test scores soared.

How did we come to the present situation, as regards mass immigration and the assault on America's foundation? I said this last week and I'll say it again: When people start to play the pandering game for political gain, votes, or acceptance and recognition, they often lose sight of our original American values and become more concerned with the superficial than the factual--all to the detriment of the common good and our future as a free and independent country.

So where do I stand on preserving these particular foundation stones of America?

Stop, or at least set extremely low limits on, legal immigration and institute a tough screeming process. Hard hearted? For those that think so, would they willing to accept the dregs from Cuba's prisons into their neighborhoods, or untold numbers of refugees from the entire world, allowed to enter the country virtually unchecked? How about terrorists using student visas? Is that OK too? Not for me.

Refuse to officially recognize hyphenated American descriptions and drop all this reference to heritage on government forms! You are either an American or a foreigner and, if you are a foreigner, you had better have the proper visa as a temporary visitor of some sort.

English Only! English will be the only official language of the United States, period. I admire those who can speak multiple languages, but I don't abide by any law that requires me to be proficient in a foreign language in order to function in my own country.

Unless we return to a philosophy of America First and America Above All, America risks finishing last in the culture competition. I don't want to see that, and neither do many millions of other real Americans.
