Control of the U.S. Congress is at stake in this November's elections. You can be sure professional victims Jesse Jackson and the NAACP's Kweisi Mfume will again stir up black voters againstus. But the political party of Abraham Lincoln doesn't have to concede 92% of black voters to Jackson and Mfume again. If just 10% of black voters switch their votes to the GOP this year, it could ROCK THEIR WORLD.Fellow Conservatives, you and I can take back Conservative control of the U.S. Senate this November by winning just one more seat.
We can also keep our slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
But to win, I'm convinced you and I first need to recruit more Conservative black voters to the GOP.
If you saw me on TV speaking in the Republican presidential debates, you already know I'm a principled and outspoken black Conservative who's not afraid to fight the radical, Leftwing black establishment.
That's why I founded an exciting Conservative organization that aims to end the Liberal monopoly on black voters and return them to the party of Abraham Lincoln.
It is called Black America's Political Action Committee (BAMPAC).
I'm sure you've shared my dismay that Liberal Democrats enjoy a monopoly on black voters. The last election was no exception. Black voters once again supported Liberals overwhelmingly, giving them 92% in the presidential election.
Is it any wonder why?
"The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) alone mounted an unprecedented $9 million television campaign and get-out-the-vote effort." The Washington Times, Sunday, November 19, 2000.
The NAACP campaign included an outrageous TV ad linking George W. Bush to the terrible 1998 dragging death of a black man in Texas.
After the election, Reverend Jesse Jackson promoted and exploited whipped-up racial tensions in South Florida in an effort to reverse the election of George W. Bush. Mr Jackson said: "All the strides made in the last 50 years will evaporate if Bush will be allowed to appoint four Supreme Court justices."
What an ugly lie! Shame on you Reverend Jackson.
And with his own emphasis on the words, "NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE!," Mr. Mfume even held an inauguration day protest rally in Tallahassee, Florida. Talk about sour grapes!
Of course, losing 92% of the black presidential vote is only part of the problem. All of the black members of the United States Congress are Liberals, except for one, Conservative Republican J.C. Watts of Oklahoma. BAMPAC helped J.C. win in 1994 and every election since.
As the only black Republican Congressman, J.C. Watts is a powerful Conservative role model. When J.C. gave the GOP's response to President Clinton's State-of-the-Union speech on national TV a few years ago, all of America heard the Conservative message from a black American for a change.
That's what makes black Conservatives like Congressman Watts--and BAMPAC--such a threat to Liberal Democrats. As black leaders, we can speak to black voters with more authority than the GOP itself can.
My hope is that, as we speak out and as we help more black Conservatives get elected, fewer black voters will be swayed by the Liberal Democrats' outrageous scare tactics.
Mind you, I won't claim that we Conservatives will get a majority of black vote. But even if we take just 5% or 10% away from the Liberals and add it to our side, it could tip the balance for us in close elections. That's right: just 5 or 10%.
My goodness! That prospect must alarm every Liberal from Jesse Jackson to newly elected U.S. Senator and presumed 2004 presidential wannabe Hillary Clinton. And worry them it should. Having even 10% of black voters switch their votes to the GOP could rock their world.
Polls repeatedly show that a third or more of black Americans consider themselves to be Conservatives. And as I've campaigned around the country, I've had many black voters come up to me to identify themselves as black Americans with Conservative views.
So the votes are out there. We just need an effective way to recruit Conservative black voters. We need BAMPAC!
Even the powerful--and Liberal--New York Times newspaper took notice of BAMPAC's efforts early on, reporting that our committee was "already marked as a comer by political handicappers." We've also made news in Business Week, The Washington Times, The Washington Post, The Economist. and on C-SPAN TV.
Despite a tiny budget, BAMPAC made a difference in the last election:
But our work is not done yet. We have so much more to do between now and the next election. And I can't do it alone. Will you help by joining and supporting our organization?
We support any principled Conservative candidates, regardless of race. We support Conservatives who'll reach out to the black community.
Alan L. Keyes is Chairman of BAMPAC, which has an Internet website at http://www.bampac.org.
