The odd thing about it all is that the "Right" never was the origin of "hate." Credit for the ultimate hate group, the Nazis. goes to the Left. The forgotten "Right" in pre-Nazi Germany was represented by von Hindenburg, whom Hitler rode out of town on a rail. The word "Nazi" isn't a word at all, but a mutilated acronym for the German phrase, "National Socialist German Workers Party" (in German, NSDAP). How it got to be pronounced (and spelled) Nazi, I am not aware. It is immaterial, save that as long as we keep using the term "Nazi," the true nature of the party is hidden.
True to their name, they were "national" and "German," or "German nationalist." They did socialize a lot of the economy of Germany. They were democratically elected. And they appealed to the "working man" for the core of their support. Sounds like the Left, because it is.
Joseph Stalin, another icon of the Left, was a murderous, hateful monster. He killed more people than Hitler, yet there are those on the Left who still refuse to speak ill of him. This is not surprising.
Nikolai Ceaucescu was another big murderer on the Far Left; so was Envor Hoxha, so was Pol Pot. We could go on, but this short list was intended simply to get one to think about all the folks in recent history of whom we should have cause to fear emulation. One element in common among these men is their Communist affiliation. These men represent where the Left proudly proclaims they want the world to end up. Oh, they call it "socialism," but make no mistake, socialism is simply good, old-fashioned communism in a shiny new package.
So, back to "Rightwing" hate. On the Right, we have--um, we have. Who do we have? Oh, yes! The Pope! Theocracy and all that. The Pope controls everything, doesn't he? Murders millions annually, doesn't he? I'm sure of it. I read it somewhere--somwhere--um.
Hate in Groups
It has been fashionable lately to post "Hate Watch" webpages on the Internet. All the good Lefties have them. They are convinced that we are out to destroy them, so they want to destroy us first (or at least save us from ourselves). Listed below are some of the more interesting examples.
The Southern Poverty Law Center
The classic of them all. The Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project (We'll just let the oxymoron stand as it is) is their big index of over 600 "hate" organizations. This "report" begins by defining "hate" as the force which produced the Nazis, racism, and the Oklahoma City bombing. It then details what the SPLC considers a "hate group": flagrant threats to freedom like the John Birch Society, the Constitution Party, and several Christian ministries. While it also lists the National Association for the Advancement of White People (NAAWP), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is suspiciously absent, despite the fact that the NAACP consistently lobbies for favoritism toward blacks and the NAAWP advocates equality for all. The SPLC also wastes a lot of webspace fretting over neo-Confederate groups, which consist mostly of the nicest burch of folks you could hope to meet, and who at worst simply want to be left alone by their government.
Tolerance.org
Linked closely to the SPLC. Their 101 Tools for Tolerance reads like a secular catechism. It is truly amazing how much empty-headed nonsense people can come up with for enforcing morality in the absence of God. What takes the LORD ten simple phrases to express takes (in this case) 101 injunctions, which are liable to change if you come back to the site several months later. Conservatism is defined as simply what works, vs liberalism's what's new. Tolerance.org is simply trying to make something new to replace the old, since the Ten Commandments are woefully "intolerant." Ain't gonna happen, guys.
The Hate Directory
A downloadable index of hate groups. Compiled by Raymond A. Franklin, this directory appears to have little or no fluff in it. Acknowledging that there really are some groups that we should all be "watching out for," this directory is about as good as anyone could hope.
Anti-Defamation League
Largely a bunch of whiney old Jewish guys. (I come from along line of whiney old Jewish guys, so I ought to know.) They wouldn't know how to recognize a real threat to their existence if it camped out in their living room. This is a watch group that has other watch groups watching it.
The Skeptic Tank
Fredric L. Rice's Skeptic Tank is bent on "exposing" the falsehood of religion (Christianity in particular), exposing homophobia, combating bigotry, and promoting study of the paranormal. Actually, there's a lot of fun stuff to read there. It is mostly a harmless vanity blog. The scary thing is, I think this guy is someone I went to high school with!
Political Research Associates
Their Public Eye website is a nicely designed site which, in their own words, serves to help us "Understand Threats to Democracy and Diversity," defined as "Racism, Sexism, Homophobia, Antisemitism, Oppression, Supremacy, Demonization, Scapegoating, Conspiracism, Demagoguery, Prejudice, Discrimination, Ethnocentrism, Sterotyping, Theocracy, Millennialism, Apocalypticism, Authoritarianism, Vigilantism, Producerism, Repression, Neofascism, Neonazism, and Totalitarianism.
Stop the Hate Resources
This site does not name names of who they think is "hateful," but they do have a ton of links to more sites that do. If you make it to this page, I need list no more groups for you.
But Some of their Material is Right, Right?
Right. Correct. Some of these groups' material is right, but it's the part that isn't that dominates their discussion. In a later article, we'll look at some of the issues the Left tackles as "evil," and try to explain why they're not.
