LIBERAL TALK, LIBERAL LOGIC, & LIBERAL POPPYCOCK
By Paul Walfield
In this article, I discusse the 10 million dollars invested by a financial group into the new Liberal talk radio network with Stuart Smalley as its anchor.
Generally speaking, in the battle of wits, the Liberals have been unarmed and, as a re- sult, Conservative talk radio has dominated the airwaves. That may be harsh, but hon- estly, is there a single Liberal idea that has merit? More to the point, is there a single Liberal idea which. if taken to its logical conclusion, would be more of a benefit to Ameri- cans than not?
Try it. No drilling in ANWR because it may adversely affect some wildlife on the northern slope of Alaska. It sounds good. No one wants to needlessly hurt kangaroo rats or speckled voles. However, America is in a war, and we are dependent for oil on nations in the Middle East for--nations that may not have our best interest at heart. The argument by the Liberal Left, whether it is about the possibility that some wild life may be displaced or that the oil reserves may only make it possible to eliminate Saudi Arabia as a source of oil for the United States, just doesn't cut it. The Liberals have no logical, practical, or common-sense arguments for virtually any of their contrary positions.
Try Iraq. The Left "needs more evidence." Why is that? The Bush administration, including the Secretary of State and the CIA, say there is enough evidence. So do 16 of 19 NATO nations, and so do apparently 28 European nations, but not France. So let's see. France, Germany, Russia, China, and the Left say they need to have more evi- dence before they can approve of a war with Iraq.
What do those countries and the Left have in common? Ask yourself this: Does Russia and China have the best interest of America in mind when they make decisions about American security and power in the world?
The Leftist Liberal Democrats are in awe of the success of Conservative talk radio. They still claim that it mainly consists of haters who happen to have a combined 40 million listeners each week, but they are convinced it's just that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and Bill O'Reilly are "entertaining." Yes, for the political Left, if you make sense, relate to your audience, have a warm spot in your heart for America, believe in what made America great in the first place and believe it should continue, all of that is beside the point. It's the entertainment value that matters.
The Democrats have tried Mario Cuomo, former governor of New York, but he and his program didn't work out. They have tried Jim Hightower, but he didn't work out either. Now comes the cream of the crop, the top of the heap, the best the Democrats could come up with: Stewart Smalley, or rather Al Franken. You remember him, he was Stewart Smalley, and he had to "save his family."
Well, then again maybe you don't remember him. The movie in which Al Franken starred, "Stewart Smalley Saves His Family," was pretty much a bust and Al Franken seemed to go away after that. But he's back now. He's a Liberal Democrat and he's gunning (well, he's a Liberal Democrat, so let's just say he is pretty miffed) for the Conservatives in talk radio.
Being a Liberal, it does make sense to need "entertainment" and view it as being more important than the message you bring. The Liberal Left's message cannot in virtually anyway stand up to scrutiny, So, if you can get a chuckle out of a listener rather than a "what the....?", you win.
That's the plan. It was at first, interesting to hear the Democrats refer to Conservatives in the media as being "entertaining." Then it became clear they always used that term. The Left would never stoop to actually telling the truth, since they are always on point. They can't further their agenda to an American audience using truth and logic--or patri- otism in its true sense, meaning nationalistic identifiers. They need to make you laugh and see them as the "fun party."
There is an old truism: If you don't have facts to make your case to a crowd, dazzle them with BS.
The Left has already formed AnShell Media L.L.C. with funding from the Paradigm group. Jon Sinton is slated to be its chief executive. Mr. Sinton is the same guy who brought Jim Hightower to radio in an effort to combat Rush Limbaugh. We all know how that worked out.
In their infinite wisdom, however, the Left is throwing at least 10 million dollars into the new Liberal talk radio network with Stuart Smalley as its anchor. The socalled "Pro- gressives" have, once again, shown why the term "progressives" is one they made up for themselves, because no one else would have ever thought of it as an accurate appel- lation for Liberals and because the Liberals feel the need for a label that will enable them to avoid the stigma of the stupid ideas associated with the labels "Liberal" and "Liberalism"-- ideas which, when put into practice, result in anything but progress. A much more appropriate synonym, or alternative name, for Liberals would be "Anti-pro- gressives."
