GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT & ECONOMIC DISTRIBUTION:
SOCIALISM VERSUS THE FREE MARKET ECONOMY
By Dr. M. Sidney Wallace
While the world was overflowing with resources, the early man grasped the fact that each individual absolutely must carry his own weight. The tribes realized that each individual had a function to take care of. If an individual could not perform any useful function, he wes not needed and was left to die on his own. This is referred to as "survival of the fit- test."
Next, there came a few smooth talking idealists (early Socialist attorneys) in each tribe that were good at convincing the rest to share a few grains of corn with less productive or non-productive members of the tribe.
American culture, in early years, was made up of hardy souls who had no choice but to toil for long hours each day. The resources were, and still are, abundantly available to all, but they needed the application of human ingenuity and sweat to turn them into some- thing that had value and could be used by society.
Today, the way one perceives work has a lot to do with which political party he belong to. Individuals who believe the afore mentioned smooth talkers tend to associate with the Democratic Party (America's Social Democratic, or Democratic Socialist, party), and believe that everyone else should provide for their well being. Individuals who believe that what history has taught as a lessons of life have a tendency to associate with the Republican Party (America's Conservative and pro-Capitalist party) and believe in the current President of the United States of America.
The problem: In all the history of the world, Socialism has never worked. The belief in utopia is no more than a pipe dream. Utopis exists only in the minds of some idealistic Socialists. There is no problem in dreaming about the future, but when a small group of these dreamers try to coerce all of society to accept their dreams, that is when the prob- lem occurs.
There has been much publicity over the past few months about the unemployment of in- dividuals in the United States. Socialists want to continue redistributing the wealth to non-productive individuals. There are two excuses most often offered by the unemployed to explain why they are unemployed: (1) I Do not know how to do the job, and (2) the job is below me. It appears to me that anyone who uses one of these two excuses is just too damn lazy to help himself, or our nation.
Free enterprise supporters say all that needs be done is to look in the "help wanted" section of most major newspapers. I looked, and found hundreds of thousands of busi- ness owners, from all over the nation, begging individuals to come help them. I wonder how far the Socialists can push their impractical, unrealistic, and unproductive ideals before they finally destroy the goose that laid the golden egg for everyone.
