IT'S NEVER "JUST ABOUT SEX"
By Christopher G. Adamo
Unfortunately, the New Jersey Democratic Party political machine is not concerned with cleaning up this mess, but is, instead, immersed in the business of maintaining its stranglehold on that state’s political power apparatus. With the complicity of a sympathetic media, the real issues at stake aren’t even being addressed. Instead, discussion centers on when McGreevey should resign, and this from a standpoint of which particular political faction might stand to gain or lose as a result of his decision.
Against a backdrop of this era of international terrorism, being perpetrated by people whose ideology advocates America’s total annihilation, the situation takes on a much greater significance. Furthermore, this debacle needs to be considered insofar as it reflects on the numerous scandals that entangled the Clinton Presidency.
To begin with, McGreevey didn’t merely engage in reprehensible and immoral behavior while holding high office. Sadly, such conduct is no longer, in and of itself, considered noteworthy. Rather, the controversy involves the fact that he hired Golan Cipel from Israel, ostensibly to serve as New Jersey’s Homeland Security Advisor, despite his total lack of qualifications for the job. It has since become apparent that McGreevey’s obvious intended purpose for Cipel was as nothing more than a taxpayer-funded homosexual concubine.
By hiring an unqualified individual to fulfill such a critically important position, McGreevey left the needs of that position completely vacant in order to indulge his own personal interests. Thus, the security of the people of New Jersey was fundamentally compromised because of a public official’s willingness to pursue his lascivious desires, with no regard for public safety.
Fortunately, al-Qa'ida was either unaware of or unable to take advantage of this breech in New Jersey’s statewide line of defense. Otherwise, McGreevey might bear some responsibility for attacks against Newark or Trenton. But the fact that this particular door was left open, at least at the state level, should give citizens cause for great alarm.
America has yet to recover from the constant humiliation of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. But more significantly, during the 1990’s, the Clinton White House primarily structured its policy-making in order to fend off backlash from illicit sexual exploits and other scandals. Clearly, any hostile foreign entity could recognize the signs of a chief executive who regularly compromised national security in order to pursue his personal interests, both physical and ideological.
It was only too late that America came to the grim realization that someone was watching, assessing our weaknesses, and waiting to strike. That the Clinton political machine has not yet mended its ways became painfully obvious from the recent actions of Jamie Gorelick on the 9-11 Commission, who diligently endeavored to prevent a thorough examination of her own complicity in the breakdown of America’s intelligence capability.
Likewise, the devious conduct of former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger points to a further effort at destroying official evidence of major lapses in the protection of the American homeland during the Clinton years. And with no one ever held accountable, precedent is being set for another administration of Liberal ideologues and lechers to once again engage in such mischief with impunity.
Despite constant claims by his defenders that Bill Clinton’s vile behavior was a “private matter,” the manner in which it eroded America’s ability to protect itself eventually became apparent. A decade of inexcusable criminal gambling with the nation’s safety ultimately caught up with America, and resulted in the unforgettable horror of 9-11.
Fortunately for the people of New Jersey, Tom Ridge and John Ashcroft have remained on the job. Otherwise, the consequences for McGreevey’s indefensible risk-taking could have been much more severe.
Nevertheless, the political “sleight of hand” continues unabated. As with the dubious 2002 New Jersey Senate race, where retired Senator Frank Lautenberg was suddenly substituted for Robert Torricelli (whose campaign was obviously failing), New Jersey voters, are expected to dutifully line up like sheep, election after election, and vote according to the dictates of the Garden State’s Democratic Party's political machine. Should they wonder why their taxes keep going up, their schools continue to deteriorate, their cities become ever more grim, and any possibilities of correcting the situation fade altogether from the realm of possibility?
