Each of these brave men and women had a moment to hug, kiss, and hold the ones they love right before they started their journey to foreign lands and uncertainty. Most, if not all, were hugged, kissed, and held by people who loved them. They were sent off with tears of pain and pride. Most in America respect and cherish America's warriors. Most Americans know that, without our warriors, we would not be warring with Saddam Hus- sein, that, instead, we would be living under his thumb, or the thumb of someone just like the Iraqi tyrant.
When the various news services play videos of America's soldiers, sailors, and marines saying good-bye to their wives, husbands, children and parents, few, if any, watching don't wish them safe passage and a safe return. Most in America want America's pro- tectors to know they have our support, their backs are being watched, and we all will do our share when called upon.
However, some in America do not share that sentiment. Some in America, most notably, the Hollywood elite, Leftists, and many in the media will jump at any word, news, or demonstration designed to undermine the mission our brave warriors have undertaken.
Some proclaim outright that America's military servicemen and servicewomen are noth- ing more than "baby killers." Some declare themselves against any military action with Iraq, but they support "our" troops. In any case, the antiwar crowd cannot be found to be anything more than unhelpful to those Americans who leave home and family to fight to preserve American values and America's freedoms.
A March 4, 2003, FoxNews article brought home the differences between those who take what America gives us all for granted and those who realize the value our freedoms have not just for themselves, but for future generations as well.
Major Hal Sellers kissed his wife and children good-bye a week ago and knows he will probably not see his four month old son Dillon, again. Not because he himself may not return, but because his son Dillon may not be there when and if he gets back. As Hal's wife, Betsy Sellers, said, "It was a hard decision to make. He had to come to the hospital and say goodbye to Dillon, and not know what would happen."
Dillon was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. It is a heart condition which, for Dillon, is fatal, unless he can get a heart transplant. When his father went off to war at the end of February, there was no donor available.
Their son, Dillon, is in critical condition, and Loma Linda Medical Center has placed little Dillon on the top of the list of heart transplant recipients. Loma Linda Medical Center's transplant coordinator, Armando Deamaya, said. "Every day could be an end-of-life issue for him, adding, "We're probably talking days rather than weeks."
Being aware of the situation, the Army had offered Major Sellers a desk job closer to home, but the veteran officer declined the offer because he felt that his country needed him and his training, and, since there was nothing more that he could do for his son here at home, he needed to fight for his son's future the only way he knew how, by stopping the evil that threatens all Americans, by stopping tyrants and despots that would do us and our children harm.
Members of the Hollywood elite want to make us all feel guilty because we drive SUVs, while they ride in limousines or private jets. The political and cultural Left wants to keep a ruthless dictator in power in Iraq, while they demand that their voices not be stifled. The Leftists insist that they are exercising their First Amendment rights--rights they don't seem willing to share with others, others with whom the Leftists disagree.
Major Sellers and his wife, and millions like them, understand the importance and the necessity of fighting for the rights they have and the importance of fighting for the rights of others.
The last thing these folks need is some whining elitists making a hard job even harder.
